Class Actions
Class Actions
A class action is a lawsuit where one person sues as a representative of an entire group or class of people who were similarly wronged. If he or she wins or loses, so do all the members of the class. Class actions have many advantages including increasing access to justice and making litigation more economic. Not every claim can become a class action. The representative must apply to the court to have the action certified as a class proceeding. That motion to the court is often the critical battleground in the action.
Having the right legal representation is critical to the successful prosecution or defence of any proposed class action. At McKenzie Lake LLP, we have an experienced team who have acted in a number of high profile, precedent setting class actions. Our team has acted in cases involved defective products, institutional abuse, union and pension claims.
Our lawyers have had the privilege to act in several class actions including:
- 2011 Manitoba Flood Class Proceeding

- The Silzone class action representing patients implanted with alleged defective mechanical heart valves.
