GM Recall Class Actions

GM has recalled more than 25 million vehicles in North America for various safety defects affecting a number of its makes and models: the “ignition switch defect” chief among them.

UPDATE – JUNE 2024

We are pleased to announce that the parties have reached a Settlement in this action.  The class action sought compensation for economic losses of current and former owners or lessees of certain GM vehicles that were recalled in 2014.  The recalls involved the Delta ignition system, key rotation, Camaro knee-key and electric power steering.

A table of the eligible vehicles and recalls can be found below. You can also determine your eligibility to participate in the Settlement via the VIN Lookup tool: VIN Lookup

Before the Settlement can be implemented, it must be reviewed and approved by both the Ontario and Québec Courts. The Settlement Approval Hearings have been scheduled for July 30, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. (Eastern Time) before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice (virtual only) and for July 31, 2024 at 9.30 a.m. (Eastern Time) before the Superior Court of Québec (virtual or in-person).

If you want to participate in the Settlement, if it is approved by the Courts, you do not need to do anything at this time.

If you do not want to participate in the Settlement, you MUST exclude yourself by “opting-out” on or before July 19, 2024. You can learn more about how to opt-out, and access the opt-out form at: www.GMIgnitionSwitchSettlement.ca.

If you do not opt-out, but you want to object to the Courts’ approval of the Settlement or some of its terms, you can do so by providing your reasons on or before July 19, 2024.  Please go to www.GMIgnitionSwitchSettlement.ca for instructions on how to complete and submit your objection.  All objections will be provided to the Courts for their consideration at the approval hearings.
