Biography

“No matter what the issues, my goal in any family law matter is to minimize conflict and move towards resolution in a timely and cost-effective manner. My experience as a researcher in the areas of law, family-focused public health services, and the prevention of intimate partner violence aid me in my family law practice.”

Kayla Gordon is an associate in the Family Law Practice Group. She holds a Juris Doctor and a Bachelor of Arts (with Distinction) in Criminology from the University of Western Ontario. While attending law school, Kayla was a Caseworker at Community Legal Services, an active member of the Community Outreach Committee, and a musical performer at Western Law’s annual charity concert.

Since Kayla’s call to the bar in 2019, she has practiced exclusively family law in Guelph, Ontario. Prior to joining McKenzie Lake, Kayla summered, articled, and practiced at another full-service law firm in Guelph. Kayla has significant experience in negotiating and preparing domestic contracts, as well as representing clients in court. Prior to beginning her legal career, Kayla worked at Western and McMaster Universities as a Researcher in the areas of law, family-focused public health services, and the prevention of intimate partner violence. Kayla’s clients value the positivity, compassion, and thoroughness with which she approaches their family law matters.

As a Board Director of both the Guelph Wish Fund for Children and United Way Guelph-Wellington-Dufferin, Kayla enjoys being active in the Guelph community. She is Chair of the Wish Fund’s Annual Auction Committee and Co-Chair of the United Way’s GenNext Committee, the latter of which organizes networking events for local young professionals. Kayla also sits on the United Way’s Board Governance Committee and the Wish Fund’s Gala Committee.

When outside of the office, Kayla enjoys traveling, hiking, photography, playing music and spending time with her friends, family, and beloved fur baby, Bernie the Bernedoodle.
