Will Hamilton’s Jail Death Inquest Bring Change? Lawyer Fears Another ‘Toothless’ Meaningful Response

In the recent decision by the jury in the Hamilton Wentworth Detention Centre drug deaths, there were 62 recommendations made for the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services. Lawyer Kevin Egan isn’t so sure that they will all be heard.

In this article by the CBC, he notes in reference to the recommendations that “There’s no guarantee of any kind of meaningful response”. This comes from his history of recommendations in 2011 and 2015 that both recommended real-time monitoring of surveillance cameras that were never implemented.
