Elgin Middlesex Detention Centre and Lawyer Kevin Egan In The News

“A human being has lost his life.  An individual had the expectation of being kept safe, and he’s dead” said McKenzie Lake’s Partner Kevin Egan in an interview with CBC’s The Current.

With inmates dying and the third death in six weeks, the Elgin Middlesex Detention Centre was the featured topic on CBC’s The Current radio show Wednesday January 17, 2018.  Host Anna Maria Tremonti spoke with lawyer Kevin Egan about the ongoing class action and his late client James Pigeau, who died in the jail January 7th, 2018.  Anna Maria also spoke with CBC’s Fifth Estate Co-Host Habiba Nosheen and Producer Joseph Loiero about their detailed investigation into the Elgin Middlesex Detention Centre which aired in December of this year.  The 45 minute episode was broadcast on national television and can be aired here:  http://www.cbc.ca/player/play/1107861571511/

James Pigeau had been a witness to the murder of Adam Kargus in October 2013 and had developed PTSD as a result of the violence he was exposed to at Elgin Middlesex Detention Centre. In the intervening years, James had been an advocate for improvements to the jail and had assisted lawyer Kevin Egan in obtaining information to advance various other EMDC related files closer to resolution.

The cause of his death remains under police investigation.
