Biography

“I enjoy helping people solve problems, but I love helping them avoid them in the first place.”

Jed Chinneck has practiced law since 1981 at Chinneck Law and now at McKenzie Lake, helping thousands of people successfully navigate some of the biggest moments of their personal and professional lives.

He specializes in succession planning, using his knowledge of real estate, corporate, litigation, family, and succession law to craft tax-efficient solutions so farmers and business people can share the benefits of their hard work safely and securely with the people who matter most to them. Jed practices what he preaches – bringing Chinneck Law into Mckenzie Lake was part of his own succession plan, ensuring his clients and staff will be in good hands when he does eventually retire.

Jed has successfully argued cases before the Ontario Court of Appeal, the Ontario Divisional Court, Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Ontario Energy Board, and the Mining Commissioner.

Before law, Jed worked as a geologist and has extensive exploration experience in the mountains of British Columbia, Yukon, and the high Arctic. He has trekked alone through the frozen north, watched the shadows of arctic wolves on his tent at midnight silhouetted by a sun that never sets, and seen the northern lights dance across the Yukon sky. He is credited with the discovery of one of the largest zinc deposits in North America.

After his adventures in northern Canada, embarking on a career in law was an easy decision. As Jed puts it, “Once you’ve stood, unarmed, 10 feet away from a grizzly bear and walked away unharmed, working with the Consolidated Statutes of Ontario doesn’t seem all that intimidating.”

Jed chose London to live, build a life, and raise a family. He’s proud to give back to the community. Over the years, he has raised thousands of dollars for cancer research, the London Food Bank, the Canadian Organization for Development through Education (CODE), and other local and national charities by hosting events, lining up sponsors for his climb to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, Everest Base Camp, and other activities.

He has a passion for travel and new cultures. His travels have taken him around the world and inspired a love of language. He speaks English, French, German, and Spanish.

Jed has an Honours Bachelor of Science Geology degree from the University of Western Ontario. He received his Bachelor of Laws from the University of Western Ontario in 1979 and was called to the bar in 1981. He is a member of the Middlesex Law Association (MLA) and the Canadian Association of Farm Advisors (CAFA).

While attending the University of Western Ontario Jed earned first-team all Canadian honours in cross-country running and won the OUA 3000 m steeplechase.
