McKenzie Lake Supports Joan’s Place Initiative for Youth at Risk

We are proud to support Joan’s Place Initiative in London, Ontario.

Earlier this year the Partners of McKenzie Lake invited representatives from the non-profit charity Youth Opportunities Unlimited (YOU) to a meeting at our office to explain the initiatives YOU is undertaking in support of London’s homeless youth in the downtown core. Moved by the presentation by committed members of the YOU executive and impressed with YOU’s record of success, we made a formal commitment of financial support to YOU on February 18th.

We fully endorse the YOU message that everyone deserves a home, a place where they can feel safe and supported. We are proud to have made a significant contribution to the Joan’s Place initiative, which will provide housing and integrated services in downtown London to youth experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness.

Once completed, Joan’s Place will act as an integrated program hub and include three buildings with primary and mental healthcare, employment training, addiction services, education, and 39 units of housing.

We felt strongly about supporting this initiative and playing a part in creating a safe home for youth, young mothers, and mothers-to-be during a vulnerable time in their lives. Further information about Joan’s Place can be found in the “Case for Support”.

Giving back to the community is a core part of who we are as a firm. Last year, McKenzie Lake made a significant contribution to the Ronald McDonald House Room Refresh, an initiative focused on fostering a home-away-from-home in the Children’s Hospital; we remain actively engaged with this organization through our ongoing participation with dinner and baking evenings.  We are also continuing our commitment to London’s transplant team with our sponsorship of its major fundraising event, Canvas For Life.

We look forward to extending our support to YOU and encourage everyone to learn more about this important facility being constructed in downtown London at the initiative of YOU’s committed executive team, board members and volunteers.
