BC Franchises Act receives Royal Assent

It seems that only yesterday (see our post here) that we were reporting on the first reading of the new British Columbia Franchises Act (the “Act”).  Yesterday, November 17, the Act received royal assent from the British Columbia legislature (in doing so, breaking all manner of land-speed records, going from first reading to royal assent in a scant 6 weeks!).  As such, the Act is now in force, although the important disclosure components are not yet applicable until such time as the Franchises Act (Disclosure) Regulations are promulgated, which we anticipate to occur within months of the cut-off for public comment, in January 2016.

Daniel So, chair of McKenzie Lake’s Franchise Law Group, is part of an advisory committee providing the government with input on those regulations.
