Biography

Called to the bar in 2011, Melissa was already familiar with McKenzie Lake, having spent a summer and articling term with the firm.  Now, after completing her Juris Doctor at the University of Western Ontario, she is a valued member of the firm’s Franchise and Business and Financial Services groups.  Working primarily with franchisees and start-up franchisors, Melissa is well-versed in the review and preparation of disclosure documentation, the purchase and sale of new and existing franchised businesses, and compliance with provincial franchise legislation.  Melissa also advises clients with respect to business organization and copyright matters.     

During law school, Melissa furthered her education by volunteering with Pro Bono Canada and Community Legal Services.  While preparing for her career before the bench, she spent some time behind the microphone, hosting an indie-rock music show on Western’s campus radio station.  Prior to law school, Melissa graduated with an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a Minor in English, also from UWO. 

Melissa is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada, Canadian Bar Association, Ontario Bar Association, Middlesex Law Association, and Canadian Franchise Association.  Outside of law, she enjoys skiing, yoga, concerts, cooking and travel.
