Biography
Since being called to the Bar in 2007, Erin has worked in alternative dispute resolution, mediation/arbitration, sports law, labour and employment law, commercial litigation, administrative appeals and franchise law.
When it comes to abiding by the rules of fair play, Erin has a history of defending sport. Erin is currently an ad hoc clerk for the Court of Arbitration for Sport, and was also extensively involved in the USADA v. Floyd Landis case -- a landmark decision which stripped the 2006 Tour de France winner of his title and resulted in a two-year ban from the sport of cycling.
Erin continues to be involved in ensuring fairness in sport, having served as a volunteer for the Court of Arbitration for Sport at the Beijing Olympic Games and as a co-ordinator of Sport Solution while a student at The University of Western Ontario. That experience and commitment to ensuring fairness serves her well in her current role with McKenzie Lake, where she has represented and advised clients in various matters including academic appeals, labour and employment related issues and commercial litigation. Erin has also recently expanded her practice to include franchise law where she has restricted her practice to advising current and potential franchisees through the franchising process.
While much of Erin's history has been involved in confronting those who have played outside of the rules, she is actively working to ensure that the next generation is appreciated for doing the right thing. Erin has served as an event-day volunteer for Future Possibilities Canada, an organization that supports children's philanthropic activities by matching them with an adult mentor. She also sits on the events planning committee for Big Brothers/Big Sisters of London and Area, and is on the governance committee for Matthews Hall, a London-based private co-educational facility.
While Erin has shown an ability to expose the secrets of those athletes with something to hide, she proves to be a much less-open book herself. When asked to reveal something about herself that no one knows, the UWO Bachelor of Laws graduate (2006) replied, "Well, if I answered this, it wouldn't be a surprise anymore, now, would it?"
