Professional Experience and Activities
Mort is a partner of McKenzie Lake Lawyers LLP practicing in the firm’s business law group and wealth transfer group. Mort handles all facets of real estate from residential purchases, sales and mortgages to sophisticated financing and development of plans of subdivision and plans of condominium.
Mort also advises on wills and trusts, providing advice on wealth management and transfer, and the administration of estates.
In 1992 Mort was appointed by the Minister of Justice as a Federal Queen’s Counsel "in recognition of his dedication to the law and its advancement in our society".
For six years, Mort was chairman or vice-chairman of the City of London Committee of Adjustment and for two years served as a member of the Federal Business Development Bank, Ontario Region Advisory Council. He has been a director or voluntary legal counsel with the Canadian Diabetes Association, Ontario Division and the Canadian Mental Health Association, London-Middlesex Branch. He has lectured to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police on logistics/advance co-ordination and provided the same at the Toronto G7 Economic Summit and Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Zimbabwe. He has recently served the Organization for Security and Co-Operation in Europe and the Canadian Government as an election observer in 2000 and 2004 for parliamentary and presidential elections in the former Soviet Union. He has recently passed a series of programmes provided by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research and has been a carded softball umpire.
